It’s no more a hypothesis that most of the insecurity issues that have taken over different spheres of our nation today are majorly fueled by the unprofessional conduct of the Nigerian security formations. The incessant unrest and killings in Nigeria today have called for the security apparatus of Nigeria to restrategize and realign themselves with the Nigerian constitution, all be it a fraudulent one and their standard operation procedure as the continuous unprofessional conduct, unnecessary show of force, indiscriminate use of fire power on citizens have resulted in further creating lack of trust and the civil unrest we now experience in the country.
A security system (police and Armed Forces) that take pride in the use of arms on her own citizens should not expect anything short of more protest from aggrieved citizens that are being humiliated and assaulted on a daily basis.
The stunt pulled by the police yesterday 31st May, 2021 by shooting directly at protesters and specifically injuring the African Action Congress(AAC) chairman who doubled as a co-convener of Coalition for Revolution movement, Omoyele Sowore, known for his unrelenting agitation for a better Nigeria which is the only crime this activist has committed. The Nigerian security operatives unleash their terror on activists, carry out illegal arrests and detain many illegally.
Let it be clear again that a protest for a better country and better life is a constitutional right of every Nigerian and a patriotic act at that, as such the police, the Army and the politicians should stop their unpatriotic attacks on protesters and activists around the country.
In the face of provocation, while a DCP in Osun state was receiving awards of patriotism and professional conduct, another police officer was carrying out sponsored unpatriotic act of shooting at protesters in Abuja in a bid to undermine the people’s genuine planned protest for June 12.
For the avoidance of doubts, the Nigerian police and their paymasters including other security apparatus should know that no amount of intimidation will stop the June 12 national protest. The police needs to know that no unarmed citizen of Nigeria should be harmed while they carry out their constitutional right of expressing their displeasure with this current government and state of the nation.
The police and other security outfit as well as oppressive politicians should allow peace to return to Nigeria by realigning themselves with their ethical code and standard of operation.
The June 12 National protest is to echo the need for a new national pro-people constitution, creation of jobs, and wealth distribution, to secure Nigerians and a call to open our land borders to allow the inflow of goods needed for the basic survival of the masses.
The police should remember that they are Nigerians too, and that they themselves and their families will benefit from the struggles for a better and more proeosperous Nigeria.
