Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has alleged that the Federal Government is making moves to stop him from contesting in the 2027 presidential election.
He made this known during a live interview on Magic FM in Aba. The session lasted about an hour. Obi spoke on politics, governance, and his future plans.
According to him, there are clear signs that those in power do not want him on the ballot. He said the government is focused on blocking his chances across political platforms.
“The present government is bent on making sure I am not a candidate for any party,” he said.
Obi insisted that he remains one of the most qualified individuals seeking to lead the country. He pointed to his background in business and public service. He said Nigeria needs leaders with real experience, especially at a time of economic hardship.
He also took a swipe at the country’s electoral system. He criticised the recently amended Electoral Law signed by President Bola Tinubu. Obi described the development as worrying.
“It is very shameful for Nigeria that the new Electoral Laws assented to by the President excluded forgery as a crime,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor warned that weakening electoral laws could damage public trust. He said credible elections are key to national stability. He added that any law that appears to protect wrongdoing sends a wrong signal to Nigerians.
Obi further spoke on the current economic situation. He said the country is struggling under poor leadership decisions. According to him, Nigeria needs a shift towards competence and accountability. He stressed that governance should focus on production, not consumption.
However, he maintained that despite the challenges, he remains committed to offering himself for service. He said Nigerians deserve better leadership and a clear direction for growth.
