Jackson Uwagboe, alongside Ryan Wedderburn and Kirk Harris, carried out a ‘brutal and sustained’ attack in June 2024

A third teenager has been found guilty of ‘viciously’ murdering a 21-year-old man over a stolen bike in 2024. Jackson Uwagboe, 19, repeatedly stabbed Robert Robinson with a machete on a residential Deptford street on June 6 of that year.
He and friends Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, 19, all hailing from Lewisham, launched a “brutal and sustained” attack involving at least 12 blows. Robert, who did not have a weapon, attempted to defend himself from the assailants but succumbed to his severe injuries at the horror scene on Carteret Way.
Earlier the same day, Uwagboe robbed a 17-year-old boy of his bicycle and phone on Deptford High Street. Robert, as part of a group, went to the home of Wedderburn, in Windlass Place, in the hopes of finding the thief.

When there was no answer, the men left, with some members allegedly damaging two cars belonging to the Wedderburn family. Tensions had been high between the previously close groups following a falling out almost two years previously.
A short while later, Uwagboe left the property with Wedderburn and Harris, armed with machetes. They walked to nearby Carteret Way, where Robert, one of his friends and their mother, spotted them and ran away.

The boy’s mother was on the phone to 999 at the time, reporting the bike robbery. Robert was chased and overpowered by the group, who fled as he lay bleeding to death in the road.
Uwagboe travelled to Lagos, in Nigeria, two days later using a ticket purchased by his friend Eromosele Omoluogbe. The 24-year-old splashed £1,129.89 on the last-minute trip, and brought Uwagboe to Heathrow Airport alongside his brother.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested Uwagboe on suspicion of murder at Gatwick Airport upon his return to the capital on February 25, 2025. Detectives scoured phone records, bank statements and hundreds of hours video footage to build a case against the three convicted men.
DNA analysis linked a knife found in the wake of the murder to Harris, who was convicted of murder last year. A second knife recovered from the River Thames months after the killing was connected to Wedderburn through CCTV.
The two men are currently serving respective life sentences. Uwagboe, of Hamilton Street, in Deptford, was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey yesterday (February 10).
He was also convicted of robbery and possession of a bladed article. Omoluogbe, of Tanners Hill, in New Cross, was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Detective Inspector Neil Tovey from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who led the investigation, said the verdict secured justice for Robert and his family.
He said: “Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by a group of men armed with knives. He was unarmed, already wounded, and on the ground when Uwagboe attacked him. His claims of self-defence were entirely without foundation.
“I again want to pay tribute to the Robinson family, who have shown immense dignity throughout this process. Through two trials they were forced to endure hearing those responsible attempt to excuse the inexcusable, and Uwagboe’s decision to flee the country significantly prolonged their search for justice and meant they were put through the pain through two trials.
“The conviction of Omoluogbe for perverting the course of justice reflects the seriousness of assisting a murderer to evade arrest. Anyone who chooses to help violent offenders avoid accountability is complicit in the harm caused and can expect to face the full force of the law.
“This outcome is the result of the relentless work of my officers and analyst, who reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, phone data and spoke to dozens of witnesses to build a compelling case. While homicide levels in London are falling, knife crime remains a profound concern for us and our communities. This investigation demonstrates our absolute determination to pursue offenders wherever they go and to hold them accountable for their actions.”
Uwagboe and Omoluogbe will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on a date to be fixed.
