In a statement on Thursday, Frank emphasized that Ahmed’s resignation is only the beginning, not the conclusion, of the matter.
Activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has welcomed the resignation of Engr. Farouk Ahmed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), following corruption allegations made against him by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery.
In a statement on Thursday, Frank emphasized that Ahmed’s resignation is only the beginning, not the conclusion, of the matter.
“Resignation is not an admission of guilt, but it is only the first step. What must follow is a full investigation and, where necessary, arrest and prosecution,” he said.
Frank urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other relevant anti-corruption agencies to immediately investigate and prosecute Ahmed over the claims made by Dangote.
He also expressed concern over the perceived inaction of the agencies more than 72 hours after the allegations were made public, noting that only the ICPC had acknowledged receiving a petition.
“More than 72 hours after these weighty allegations were made public, the silence of our anti-corruption agencies is deeply troubling and unacceptable in a country that claims to operate under the rule of law,” Frank said.
He further questioned the state of justice for ordinary Nigerians in light of the situation.
“If Aliko Dangote cannot get justice in a matter of this nature, then one must ask what hope is left for ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
Ahmed had announced his resignation on Thursday following Dangote’s accusations that he paid $5 million for his children’s tuition.
