In a recent interview with AriseTV’s Charles Aniagolu, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi offered a scathing assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s two-year tenure, stating that the administration has lived up to its promise of continuity—but in a negative way.

Obi, known for his candid opinions on governance, sarcastically remarked that Tinubu has been “doing well” in fulfilling his pledge to continue from where the previous government left off.
“You know, Charles, I have always refrained from assessing this government because I have always been consistent in saying that he is doing well—because what he promised the people is exactly what he is doing,” Obi said. “He said he would start and continue from where the previous government stopped, and he is doing just that.”
Highlighting the country’s economic decline, Obi cited key indicators such as the steep depreciation of the naira, rising fuel prices, and worsening unemployment.
“Somebody who met the dollar at ₦300-₦400, and now it’s ₦1,500—Charles, he has done fantastic,” he said sarcastically. “Same in fuel, same in everything—unemployment, democracy, everywhere. He is on the sliding side, and that is ‘doing well’ because that’s what he promised.”
