President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with the Asagba of Asaba, Delta State, Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The monarch arrived alongside other royal fathers, believed to be members of the Obi-in-Council.
The meeting comes amid rising tension following Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The emergency rule, announced earlier this week, led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
As part of the proclamation, the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the State House of Assembly were suspended for an initial period of six months. Additionally, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), was appointed as the Sole Administrator of the state.
As part of the emergency measures, the President also appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), as the sole administrator of Rivers State.
Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge is the 14th Asagba of Asaba and officially ascended the throne on August 26, 2024.
