He was subsequently taken to the station despite presenting the required particulars, which they did not bother to check.
A motorist, whose name has been withheld, has recounted his ordeal with officers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in Abuja, alleging that they assaulted him and forcibly extorted N350,000 from him at gunpoint.
According to SaharaReporters, the man said that he was stopped around Arab Road by officers from the Kubwa Phase 4 Police station, enforcing 3rd party insurance.
He was subsequently taken to the station despite presenting the required particulars, which they did not bother to check.
The motorist added that he was treated like criminals at the station and forced to transfer money to a POS operator within the station, Joshua Ayokunle Agboola.
“On Friday evening, policemen from Kubwa police stopped me on Arab Road while enforcing the 3rd party insurance. They didn’t even bother to check the vehicle papers.
“The officers insisted that I should follow them to the police station. But at the station, they tried to detain me without informing him of his offence.
“At Kubwa phase 4 police station, they asked me to pay N1.5million and at the end, they agreed to collect N650,000. The officers then called a POS lady outside the station and collected N350,000, to get balance on Monday.
“This POS agent is within the Kubwa Area Command/Division Kubwa, Abuja.”
