PRESS STATEMENT:
APC INTEGRITY GROUP ONDO STATE
CONTINGUENCY FUNDS IN ORDER AS PALLIATIVES
The APC INTEGRITY GROUP, Ondo State, is shocked by the sensational statements in the media as regards contiguency spending. One would wonder if it is now difficult to understand simple terms.
The APC Integrity group would have ordinarily ignored the comments until we see seriousness in those driven by ulterior motive and sensationalism. However, for unsuspecting members of the public who may be swayed by the distortion of facts.
The palliative the Federal Government gave was never envisaged during the budget planning of the State and its best added to the contiguency spending as an emergency fund. It is crystal clear that the emergency fund had to be spent as quickly as possible to cushion the effect of the emergency removal of fuel subsidy.
The statement from the government of Ondo State is clear enough. But for those seeking to marry the issues with their clandestine motives, this attempt is dead on arrival.
It may be imperative for the public to note that, a few days ago, “Sowore launched an attack against the government and good people of Ondo State. Days later, we are getting his “Sahara Reporters,” notorious for spreading fake news and disinformation attacking the same government. Sowore is only trying to raise dust where there is none in other to get patronage.
The body language is clear, and members of the public should be weary of such figures and his fake media.
The end product of this sudden attack is hinge on a political calculation by those who intend to label the dog a bad name, in order to hang it.
We admonish that, Sowore and his team, notoriously known to be a proponent of forceful take over of power, under his #RevolutionNow movement should cover his face in shame.
His abysmal performance during the last election, having been flawed massively by the All Progressive Congress (APC), is still causing him serious mental health issues.
The question begging for answer is, can such an unserious element who wants forcefully take over, yet contesting in a democratic election be taken seriously? Or is Sowore only in the election to swindle the public through donations of their hard-earned resources?
The fact of the case remains that the federal government gave money to states to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy. It was followed through as a result of the emergency removal of “Fuel Subsidy.” No one could have envisaged how fast the subsidy would have been removed to put it in a yearly budget.
More so, budgets have been passed before the subvention by the federal government. It is best placed under the contingency list.
The people of Ondo State who are beneficiaries of the palliatives are thankful to the government for ameliorating the ugly situation. Workers are now getting more support, and transportation costs now history. Our students both in the inland and mainland can now boast of public transportation. The government continues to attend to the general welfare of her people. The distribution of relief material has been ongoing and continues at intervals. Those making a noise are interested members, hoping to attack the government for cheap political scores.
Ondo State government has been rated very high on transparency and accountability. It is an age long practice to keep the public informed about government spending. It is a thing of pride that other states have continuously emulated Ondo State’s commitment.
The general public should jettison the clandestine motive of the agents of doom, whose interest since their failed wishful thinking has been rubbished by God.
The recent sponsored attack is a revelation that Ondo State will never fall to the hands of rumor monger and those willing to use all available tools to set the people against the government for personal agenda.
In conclusion, the government should continue to provide more palliatives to ameliorate the harsh effect of the removal of fuel subsidies. We call on the good people of the state to ignore sensationalism. While we continue to pursue the development of the state,

COMMENT:
1.) FG pledged 5 billion naira to states and NOT 7 billion naira as erroneously claimed in the statement.
2.) The money is a combination of LOAN and GRANTS by the Federal Government. The LOAN is 48% while the GRANT is 52% of the total sum. The loan is to be paid back in 20 months tenor with a 3 month honorarium.
3.) As at September 2023 when Quarter 3 ended,Only 2 billion naira had been disbursed to states. This was to avoid inflationary drive. So where did the excess of 6.3 billion naira added to the contingency expenditure arrive from?
4.) the FG palliative loan was SPECIFICALLY tied to the PURCHASE OF ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND BAGS OF RICE,FORTY THOUSAND BAGS OF MAIZE AND FERTILIZERS FOR FARMERS. This was to curb the scourge of food shortage. Hence, using a phantom “palliative” description is mischievous, deceptive and misleading to Ondo state citizens.
