Reno Omokri, a sociopolitical activist, has criticized the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for backing Israel in the ongoing war between the country and Hamas, an Islamic Resistance Movement.
Pastor Adeboye had, in a short video posted on Wednesday through his official X handle, said God will grant Israel absolute victory over Hamas.
According to him, ‘no one will ever again disrupt the peace of Israel.’
Adeboye’s comments came after Jordan had backed Hamas in the war against Israel.
Reacting, Omokri, in a post via his X account, faults Adeboye’s comment, insisting that a greater percentage of Palestinians are Christians than the Israeli population.
He tweeted, “But, sir @PastorEAAdeboye, what about our brothers and sisters in Palestine? A greater percentage of Palestinians are Christians than the Israeli population. Half a million of them, to be precise. Doesn’t the Bible, in Galatians 6:10, ask us to first show love to members of the household of faith before others? Perhaps they may feel abandoned that your message did not even mention them. If I were a Palestinian and saw your message, I would sink into further despair.
“Acts 10:34 says God does not show partiality. But sir, are we not being partial when we pray for Israel and ignore Palestine? Perhaps it is an oversight.
“Sir, I have been to Palestine. I will not wish their condition on my own enemy. They are God’s children, too. Don’t they deserve our love and prayers and every possible non-military support we can rouse to alleviate their tremendous human suffering?”
The conflict between Israel and Hamas has escalated, resulting in total military warfare in the Gaza Strip since Saturday.
According to a report from humanitarian bodies, the war had already claimed over 2,300 lives on both sides.
I did not slam baba Adeboye
Following the reportage of many news media houses, online and otherwise, not Mataz Arising, pitching Reno against baba Adeboye, that he slammed the revered man of GOD, Reno has categorically denied slamming baba, that he only drew the attention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s General Overseer to “the necessity of also praying for Palestine, Palestinians and not just Israel.”
He said, “Please read my post. I politely drew the attention of Pastor Adeboye to the necessity of also praying for Palestine and Palestinians, and not just Israel. It was further stated to the very respected cleric that half a million Palestinians are Christians who will feel ignored, abandoned, and denigrated when a prominent Nigerian Christian leader of global influence prays for Israel without praying for them and states explicitly that God will give “victory” to Israel. That prayer may indicate that Christians have sided with Israel against them.
I stated that this may have been an oversight on the part of the pastor, and perhaps he could address it to give Palestinians a sense of belonging.
Finally, I drew the eminent pontiff’s attention to the fact that both Christian and Muslim Palestinians are friendly to Christians and act as custodians of many of the holy sites of Christianity, including the birthplace of our Lord, Yeshua Hamashiach in Bethlehem, and his suspected residence in Nazareth, as well as Jericho, the city where Yeshua (Jesus) encountered Zacchaeus. They have never defiled these holy sites and are helpful to Christian pilgrims, including those from Nigeria.
I have taught at multiple Redeemed Christian Church of God in several locations worldwide, and greatly admire the work that Pastor Adeboye has done in spreading the Gospel. Drawing his attention to the sufferings of Palestinians and urging that he include them in his prayers is certainly not ‘slamming’ him.”
The above was made on his official X handle.
