Nigerian international, Alex Iwobi, has made a high-profile transfer from Everton FC to Fulham, marking his return to London.
Before joining Fulham, Iwobi found himself at the center of a contract negotiation saga at Everton with several contract offers, described as ‘huge,’ were reportedly presented to the talented midfielder, but he opted to decline these proposals.
During this period, speculation regarding Iwobi’s future was rampant, with Premier League clubs such as West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), and Turkish club Fenerbahçe all linked to the player.
As the transfer window’s deadline approached, Iwobi seized the opportunity to depart Everton. His decision to return to London is still a misery to the football community, particularly considering the reported lucrative contract offers he had previously turned down.
Although it remains uncertain which jersey number Iwobi will don for Fulham, what is clear is that he will be reuniting with his compatriot Calvin Bassey, who also recently joined Fulham from Ajax FC.
However, Iwobi’s immediate playing prospects are somewhat uncertain till after the international break and he is expected to represent Nigeria who are scheduled to play a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualification match on the 10th of this month against São Tomé and Príncipe.
This means that Iwobi will be representing Fulham in his potential debut against Luton Town on September 16th after honouring his international duties with Nigeria.
However, with Iwobi joining Fulham, the football community are anticipating his contributions to Fulham as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.
