My attention has been brought to the good news that you featured our incoming President of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one of the most influential people in the World!
I believe you’re not misplaced in your feature and quite agree with you that Mr. Bola Tinubu has been a household name in the political sphere of Nigeria particularly since the return of Civilian Democratic Practice in 1999. Perhaps a peep into History will reveal that Mr. Tinubu has been very deliberate in choosing his pcaths in politics. Here is a man who voluntarily left his comfort zones working in ExxonMobil Nigeria and plunged into politics. He was in the struggle to recover the annulled election of June 12, 1993. The winner Bashorun MKO Abiola lost his life to the struggle and Bola Tinubu amongst others like Dr. Beko Ransome Kuti, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka and many more had to go into exile to avoid falling to the bullets of the assassins of Gen Sani Abacha the maximum Military Ruler of Nigeria who sadly died in 1998 after terrorizing Nigeria and Nigerians.
Tinubu became an elected Governor of Lagos in 1999 and had the luck of winning a reelection for another 4 years, spending 8 years in total. These were years that became the practical test to the character and industry of Bola Tinubu. His challenge to the then PDP Federal Government of Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo also showed the mettle with which Tinubu is made. Lagos became the reference point for development as every other State came calling to learn from the powerhouse the State Civil Service had become. Sound policies were being churned out and Lagos economy really flourished. The successive Government’s after his had continued to follow the blueprints which were set out by his Government 16 years after he left the Stage.
His masterstroke alignment with elements in the North, East and South South Nigeria ensured a new Party, APC, won the 2015 General election and Gen Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as President, even after losing at three different times. It is no wonder why he won the Presidency at the last election in February 2023. His past records of achievement including his handship across the various political cleavages that is Nigeria helped to him win.
Though some elements have chosen to stain his win as a result of alleged rigging, I dare asked where that was possible given the security clampdown all over the Federation. Unfortunately, some alluded to pockets of electoral violence (which is not really alien to our election. But Nigeria has been evolving with our practice of democracy and we shall get there one of these days! The 2023 election has been won and lost and the constitution provides the organizers – INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) to organize the nationwide elections and determine the winner based on criteria set out in the Nigerian constitution. This has been met and Tinubu declared the winner.
Tinubu has proven that with performance in office, service to the people and deft political moves you could really make winning possible in your political aspirations of ruling our dear Country Nigeria. There’s a lot expected of Tinubu and I am sure he is more than prepared and set to work to build on the foundations laid by the Buhari government and make Nigeria shine in the comity of nations. Africa and indeed Nigeria Renaissance shall herald the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government.
Nigerians are set to seize the moment and all hands are on deck to join up with Tinubu so that we can jointly build the Nation of our dreams. This is our promise and I sincerely believe Tinubu would not let Nigerians down.
