THE GATHERING STORM OF INTIMIDATION, THREATS, AND HARASSMENT OF NON-INDIGENES AFTER THE FEBRUARY 25 PRESIDENTIAL/NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN LAGOS STATE
Let us forget Peter Obi for a moment. Like Atiku Abubakar, Obi is busy right now gathering and “collating” evidence for his challenge in court of the “victory” of Asiwaju BAT Tinubu in the presidential election.
Now what does one say about a dozen Yoruba born within and outside Lagos State contesting for the office of Governor? Nothing unusual about that. Why then would some elements choose to criminalize any decision by any citizen to vote for other than their preferred candidate?
While the goverment looks on,
OR looks the other way?
What kind of Democracy is that?
This is not about the Labour Party candidate. It is about every other candidate, (not Ajibade Sanwo-Olu), who are on this ballot. They must come out as one man to very loudly denounce this Agbero mentality masquerading as a valid democratic process. Meanwhile expecting Gov Sanwo-Olu and his mentor the Asiwaju Tinubu or indeed the APC national and state organisations to forcefully condemn this ugly trend when it favours them, is sheer wishful thinking. In addition, putting our hopes on the APC Police and Security Agencies is akin to admonishing wolves to tend the sheep.
What is evolving is indeed frightening.
If the Labour Party and other party supporters insist on coming out in numbers to vote in Saturday’s state elections stand their ground to defend their votes, storm the Collation Centres to confront both the suspect INEC operatives and APC enforcers, we may have a total breakdown of Law and Order in Lagos on our hands. Just like in 2019, the elite supporters of Tinubu, who seem not to believe in anything, are most unlikely to weigh in and plead for sanity.
Just imagine this. WHAT IF an Omo Igbo like me gathered enough followership and IS ACTUALLY RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR OF Lagos State, on this very ballot? .
Forget all that claimed Sophistication, even Eko Bridge, made mainly of concrete, would burn! . That’s how united we are.
How I love Sunday Igboho, who does not beat about the bush. Others are pretenders, excluding of course the #OBIdients, who put this discussion smack on the front-burner, where it cannot be ignored. If we survive this coming Saturday, we shall live long as a people.
Meanwhile we must thank the Editorial Board at The Punch Newspapers for highlighting this ugly trend. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
