The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied raiding the residence of the Presidential Candidate All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA on Sunday, the commission described reports of the raid as ‘False’.
The statement read; “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media, claiming that operatives of the Commission raided the home of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming presidential elections and recovered a humongous sum of N400billion.”
“The Commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news.”
The reaction of the EFCC and the social media about the raid and recovery of the alleged N400 billion from Tinubu’s house follows speculations and comments on the presence of two bullion vans at the Lagos residence of the APC chief on the eve of the 2019 elections.
Though Tinubu at that time said that no one should question him on the presence of the bullion vans in his house given that he was not a public officer at that time, an associate, Comrade Ayodele Adewale recently came out to say that the bullion vans belonged to a bank and that they missed their way into Tinubu’s house. He also said that the bullion vans were empty.
