The United Arab Emirates have continued with their resolve to deport Nigerians illegally admitted into their country and those committing criminal activities, from drug deals to Cultism.
In a video obtained by Matters Arising, deportees were seen showing themselves in handcuffs on a bus headed for what is suspected to be a detention center where they will be processed for onward deportation back to Nigeria.
The deportees in handcuffs mostly seem to be in good spirits, they warned Nigerians to be wary of going to Dubai, to not listen to lies from anyone.
In the video, one of the handcuffed men said that the bus they were on is one of fifteen of such loaded with Nigerians to be deported.
It has been widely reported and publicized how Nigerian youths and students indulging and engaging in cultism and fights and all kinds of manners of criminal activities in Emirates which the Arab country was not happy About.
In September 2021, Niderians residing in the United Arab Emirates have raised a public outcry over a restrictive labour policy that bars them from getting employed, leaving hundreds without means of livelihood, homeless and hungry.
The new policy, which prohibits Nigerians from getting work permits that will enable them live decently, goes against Sustainable Development Goals One, Two, Three, Eight and 10 which bother on poverty, hunger, good health and wellbeing, decent work and reduced inequalities respectively.
Since early July, 2021, Nigerians in the UAE have been saying that they are being victimised solely on account of their nationality and more than 300 persons have lost their jobs as they are not granted work permits by the country’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MORHE) in charge of regulating labour affairs.
These infamous activities of some Nigerians may not be unconnected to the rejection faced then by Nigerians trying to renew their work permits in the UAE, even though the country’s labour ministry claims the measure was put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
