AMALGAMATED Arewa Youth Groups yesterday protested against award of the pipeline surveillance contract to former militant Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, by the Federal Government.
There were reports last weekend the contract was awarded to Tompolo.
Addressing reporters in Abuja at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) towers, Arewa Youth Groups, Victor Duniya, said the contract would cost national treasury N4 billion monthly.
He noted that the contract was coming at a time the region was bleeding due to activities of terrorists without significant support from the Federal Government.
Duniya, noting the peaceful protest was to register their displeasure, said the group issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to terminate the contract or shut down the Amnesty Office.
After the ultimatum, he said the group would return to NNPC towers to halt its activities until their demands were met.
Duniya said: “We are not here to officially protest against the awarded contract, this gathering is our minimal number is to register our displeasure over it.
“We have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to terminate the contract or better still shut down Amnesty Office. Niger Delta Youths alone can’t have the two. We are all stakeholders in the Nigeria project too.
“This is coming at a time our region is bleeding due to activities of terrorists, yet, our youths … are not allowed to acquire light arms to defend their communities…
“… supposed ex-agitators are being sponsored to world class universities, others are trained to acquire skills, while those with businesses are empowered … we officially have the Amnesty Office funded from our annual budget, yet, the restiveness in Niger Delta seems to be increasing with increased funding of the programme”.
The group called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Group Executive Director of Upstream of NNPC Ltd Adokiye Tombomelye for promoting ethnic and regional interest over national interest as well as Group Managing Director of NNPC Mele Kyari for using his office to reward ‘criminality and treasonable tendencies instead of patriotism’.
COMMENT: Hear these jokers again….are they that dumb to realize that region is where the wealth of Nigeria resides as of today and that Tompolo is their son who can reduce the menace of these oil thieves? To these almajiri leeches, the contract should have been awarded to yet another Fulani ‘brother,’ Rubbish and Nonsense.
