The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has finally broken silence to the rumour making rounds that he has picked a Muslim as his running mate in the 2023 general elections.
The former Governor of Lagos State who outrightly condemned the rumour said contrary to the purported news he intends to pick a Northern Christian as his running mate.
Tinubu stated this on Wednesday while addressing newsmen in Ekiti State during the party governorship rally for the June 18 gubernatorial election in the state.
Speaking during the rally, the APC National Leader assured Nigerians that no group, institution or person can impose a running mate on him, stressing that the party vice presidential candidate will emerge from the Northeastern part of the country.
He, however, distanced himself from the rumours, stressing that the carriers of the news were undemocratic elements that already threatened his imminent victory in the coming presidential election.
According to him, “The VP slot belongs to the Northeastern region and particularly the Christians, but consultations are yet ongoing as to who will be decided.”
