A callous woman was caught this morning 6th February as she was beating a young boy kept her care, who stays with her. She alleged that the boy stole a piece of meat from her pot of soup.
It was reported that the woman was taken to Fanibi police station, Akure where the assaulted boy underwent treatment (sewn/sticthed up) for his wounds, which were deep cuts on his back, arme and abdomen.
In the video made available to mataz arising, sympathizers could be heard rebuking the culprit for the way the boy was mercilessly beaten by her. A man could heard saying “no, no, no, no, this is too much”. Also, a lady lamented that, “mummy, ki ni yi ti pounds now”. The wicked woman who’s identity was still unknown as at press time had the nerve to say that “she had asked the boy to go and bathe”, that she wants to take the boy to Ilorin, most likely to the boy’s relatives. The male witness was having non of the woman’s excuses and explanation, rebuking the woman saying repeatedly that the boy was way too young for the kind of treatment meted out to the poor boy.
l implore the good citizens of Akure to get to the bottom of this matter, get the culprit’s identity, and make sure that the young boy gets justice.
Unfortunately, the truth is that, this kind of maltreatment of young people working as house helps, and placed with relatives or people to look after in exchange for education, or whatever, suffering such abuse is more common than Nigerians realize; many of which resulted in death. It is beyond my understanding what kind of spirit will descend on a human being, a mother to physically assault a child to this extreme.
It is not a crime to be poor, the government needs to do more to protect them.
