One of Nigria’s 2023 presidential hopefuls and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is reported to have left the country to rest after his consultations with prominent Nigerians regarding his presidential bid, which he once described as his lifelong ambition.
Despite the obvious health issues affecting Mr. Tinubu, his boy, who he installed as the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has insisted that Tinubu was the most qualified Nigerian to be president in 2023.
The fact that Tinubu was absent at the inauguration of the working committees, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (ABAT), that is being set up by members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos for the actualization of his presidential ambition, in GRA Ikeja, Lagos is telling; what could be that wrong with him to miss the event? Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, GAC members, APC leaders across the state’s 57 local councils and a large number of party supporters were among those that graced the event.
Tinubu has publicly announced his intention to run for president after consulting with President Buhari at Aso Rock, Abuja, and also met with former Military President and annuler of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, General Ibrahim Babangida.
Could it be that in the last two weeks, Tinubu’s junketing around soliciting for support for his candidacy that took him to some northern states, including Niger and Katsina, under the guise of commiserating with the governors and the people, over recent incidences of insecurity and killings has caught up with him?
Since the news broke on Thursday, Nigerians believe that the trips Tinubu has had to embark on in the last two weeks have affected his health negatively. He was said to have seen the need to take a break to rest, and also see his doctors outside the country.
While some sources hinted he travelled to London, others were not particularly sure of his destination but confirmed that he had since left the country to rest and also run some medical check-ups.
But Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, said Tinubu’s indisputable capability to effectively manage human and material resources for visible progress stood him out as the most qualified to be president next year.
“We must see ourselves in line with Asiwaju’s political ideals. To be open to all, tolerate various interests and embrace everyone. We must reflect those ideas of our leader in our utterances and actions. You cannot afford to disappoint us on this mission,” Sanwo-Olu said.
While I sincerely and millions of Nigerians wish Tinubu a quick recovery and the best of health, the concerns about his health are not good for his candidacy and for Nigeria as a whole. In 2007, President Obasanjo knew that President Umaru Yar’Adua was not a healthy man before ensuring he became President. Not only Yar’Adua’s medical trips while in office became extremely problematic, but his final days on earth, to no fault of his, almost destroyed Nigeria as the cabals of Aso Rock did all they could to prevent Jonathan from taking over as President.
Had OBJ not handed over the Nigerian government to a man known to be suffering from serious health issues, Nigeria may not have had the corrupt riddled and incompetent administration of president in Jonathan, and highly likely would have been saved from the nepotistic, corrupt, destructive, imbecilic and incompetent government led by president Buhari.
Now, here we are again, Tinubu has not made it to Aso rock, even the proper campaign is yet to begin, he is already having a medical vacation, and possibly treatment abroad. This is a man who just came back from London, about three to four months ago, and is out again.
For the sake of the country, himself and his family, Tinubu and every aspirant needs to present their health status to Nigerians.
Nigeria is in such a mess, a massive one, that she cannot afford to have a man struggling with health issues as President.
Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu does not appear to have the physical capacity for the job. Let him take care of his health and rest.
It doesn’t look good for Nigeria from her antecedents regarding sick presidents in the last 16 years, if Tinubu were to be the next president, it sure looks doesn’t look good.
Once again, I wish Asiwaju Tinubu the best of health, and a sound mind.
