Dr. Wumi Akintide
Are Yoruba Traditional Rulers saying that secession is a “no go area” even if the current Federal Government headed by General Buhari import Fulanis from all over West Africa to take over all of our territories in the South just like they once did to Ilorin?
Are they supporting fundamental restructure of Nigeria to guarantee regional autonomy and more equity and Justice to all like we used to have before the Military Coup of January 15, 1966 and the Revenge Coup of July 29, 1966 which completely turned Nigeria into a unitary system.
These traditional rulers have to make their positions clear to the people they rule over.
There is going to be a big problem if the great majority of their people are not on the same wave length with them. We need to be clear about that.
They have to choose between these two options.
They cannot be beating about the Bush blowing hot and cold and confusing their subjects.
The Fulanis who want to take over our fatherland because they currently dominate the Federal Governmentÿ of Nigeria know that most of our Royal fathers are needy people and toothless bulldogs who can be easily bought and bribed to not go with their own people but to support the current Federal Government which is fully on the side of the Fulanis and are Hell- bent on taking over the Southern Half of Nigeria just like they took over Ilorin before or just like the Muslim Ottoman Turks had taken over Turkey and eventually turned the country from a Christian country into a predominantly Muslim Country till tomorrow.
The same thing is about to happen in Nigeria and the Yoruba Royal Fathers are playing Russian Roulette or playing games with their own people and the Destiny of generations of their people yet unborn.
It is just not enough for them to say they don’t want secession, they must tell us what they want in black and white.
If it is total surrender or submission or capitulation they want, they must tell us loud and clear.
If they don’t get what they want, they have got to tell us their fall back position.
If President Buhari and his Fulani- dominated Federal Government adamantly and stubbornly refuse to restructure the country, then what?
What I hear the great majority of their people saying is that, if the Federal Government refuses to restructure then secession becomes inevitable and compulsory.
That is what I have heard former President Olusegun Obasanjo saying and that is what General Theophillus Danjuma has been saying. That is what Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Pa Banji Akintoye have been saying.
That is where the consensus of the Yorubas lie right now in my opinion.
The Yoruba Royal Fathers are only saying what they are against . They must tell us what they are for and what is their bottom line, if they don’t get what they want?
They must issue a joint communique making that clear to the Federal Government and President Buhari if they are honest brokers and if they want their subjects to believe they are trustworthy.
It is that simple. They cannot eat their cake and still have it.
They are either for or against the ultimate interest of the people they are selected and crowned to rule over.
They either answer to the people who select them as Kings or they only want to answer to the Government which has to rubber stamp their appointments or selection.
The Yoruba Southwest is sitting on a ticking time bomb or a Pandora Box today while our Royal Fathers are busy playing their fiddle like Emperor Nero while the City of Rome was burning down to the ground.
I rest my case.
