Whenever they increase electricity tariff, it’s a punishment for southerners only.
How come they tell us that we have more people in the North but all socioeconomic data says otherwise?
Power consumption, school enrollment, private sector labor participation, GDP and tax income etc data shows otherwise?

Kaduna Distribution Company.
It covers Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi. These 4 states registered over 7.5million voters but the electricity company has a paltry 490,000 customers and has just 8 offices. The tax generation is 1.8% of power revenue.
The CEO of the company is Garba Haruna. The current chairman is Alhaji Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar. The company is also presented by other four directors: Alhassan Dantata, Jamil Gwamna, Alhaji Garba Y. Imam, Tajuddeen Dantata.
Kano Distribution Company
Formed in May 2012, it was a consortium of 5 other electricity companies in Kano state. KADC covers Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina. A geographical coverage of 67,128 Km Sq. The population of the three states is about twenty million citizens according to NPC. But they have only submitted 1.9 million customer base contributing 3.78% electricity tax revenue.
Yola Distribution Company
Covers Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states. It’s one of the main distributors of the north. This company was formally privatized in 2013. Since 2015, it has not posted up to N5m from Yobe and Borno. Reason, Boko Haram. But INEC was able to post over 3million votes from there.
Jos Distribution Company
Provides services to Benue, Gombe, Bauchi, and Plateau. They posted a loss in the annual tax returns since 2016 with 2.1million customer base. Since inception, their average annual returns is 1.83%. Again, they will point at the herdsmen attacks to Benue and Plateau.
Abuja Distribution Company
They cover Niger, FCT, Nassarawa, and Kogi. Privatized in November 2013. The Federal Government of Nigeria still holds about 40% of company assets. The total area of coverage is about 133,000 square kilometers. FCT contributes 1.89m of its 2.16m customers. And 56% of its FCT customers are non taxable.
Ibadan Distribution Company
Covers Kwara, Oyo, Osun, and Ogun. Launched in November 2013 as a part of a plan for unbundling the energy sector of the country. The company organized five business hubs across Nigeria. The company also has a strong strategical partnership with Meralco – Manila Electric Company, which is one of the largest distributors of energy on the Philippines. IDC generates 19% of NERC tax revenue.
Eko Distribution Company
It’s a small electricity company which covers Lagos, Ogun, and Agbara.
For the ease of operations, the company is divided into three circles and ten districts. But don’t play with their 21% average tax furnishing to the power sector.
Ikeja Distribution Company
The company began operations in November 2013.
It boast of more than 800,000 customers from ONLY Ikeja and a steady 9% splash on the TSA.
Benin Distribution Company
They cover Delta, Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states. The coverage area of the company is about 55,770 square kilometers.
The company provides its services from twenty-five business districts across the country. The coverage includes 13 million people and more than 5.5 million households. BEDC 2nds the chart with 18% revenue and 87% customer debt service compliance.
Port Harcourt Distribution Company
Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states are fed here. The vision of the company is to provide high-quality utility services for Nigerians. 14.6 million people are connected to the national grid from them and 17% of the money in the power sector has its village here!
Enugu Distribution Company
The company covers Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra and Imo states. It stands to be the pillar for providing excellent services of energy distribution in five states. In the Spirit of oneness. EEDC receives and distributes about 9.12% of the power generated in Nigeria. But they return 19.62% of tax with 91% consumer bills compliance.
When it comes to tax paying, you know which part of the country carries the can, but when it comes to “collection” your guess is as good as mine!!!!
