What is the difference between this Seriki Abbas Tafida and Sunday Adeyemo Igboho?
What has brought the Seriki to this point?
Sunday didn’t ask the Yorubas to kill any, and all Fulanis they see in Yorubaland. He only said that they should stop killing his people. Many can vilify Sunday all they want, but their is a point at which people snap; it’s a case of when someone is pushed to the limit. The Emir said, enough is enough and snapped! He therefore ordered any Fulani seen around after his 30 days ultimatum to be killed. Before anyone can be killed, the will be armed one way or another.
In as much as I do not agree with the Emirs statements/comments in directing his people to take deadly reprisal actions against the Fulanis, I understand his frustrations and sympathize with his sentiments. If you have a government that refuses to protect your people, what do you do? It’s either you protect your people or let them continue to be murdered by the tribe favored by the government of the day.
The question then becomes, what will Buhari do about this? Arrest the Emir for inciting violence and propagating mass murder of the Fulanis, or for ethnic cleansing?
What are the northern governors, some northern politicians and elites that have been castigating the southern governors for banning open grazing and all the provocations of their utterances going to say now?
Buhari’s actions created Sunday. I think we should all pause, have a rethink, and at least appreciate what Sunday was trying to do and those who have a problem with his mode of operation to at least understand what he was doing, which was to protect his people, the same thing Emir Tafida has now been forced to do.
To those condemning Igboho for trying to break up Nigeria, let us slow down for a moment to think about who really the divider is here; is it Igboho, Kanu, Tafida or Buhari?
The answer is clear to many, Buhari is the divider and the divider in chief due to his ‘in your face’ sectionalism and nepotism, his actions and inactions in handling the security or lack thereof situation in the country, and, not Sunday, not Kanu, not Tafida. Let us not treat the sickness alone and not the cause.
Killed, Jailed, or Freed, Sunday Igboho should not be vilified, he needs to be applauded for his courage to stand up to oppression and injustice no matter what happens. Sunday Igboho’s place in the history of the Yoruba people, indeed the history of Nigeria is assured.
Those who castigated Mohammed Ali, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X to mention a few, are the ones, and their descendants appreciating and worshipping them today.
