Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other dissenting members against actions that could derail the party’s forthcoming national convention.
The governors, after a meeting held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau, reaffirmed their commitment to the resolutions of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) reached in July, which endorsed the convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In their communiqué, the governors urged members to resist all attempts by anti-party forces to undermine the exercise, describing the PDP as Nigeria’s most credible democratic institution and the only viable alternative capable of restoring the nation to the path of good governance and development.

“It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces; but to see the PDP as the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development,” the communiqué partly read.
The governors commended the resilience of party members in the face of defections and internal disputes, insisting that such distractions cannot erode the PDP’s grassroots support.
Their warning comes days after Wike openly criticised the PDP leadership over the South-South congress and threatened a fresh crisis if his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, was not recognised as National Vice Chairman.
Wike also rejected the zoning committee led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, a move that has deepened tensions within the party.
The meeting of the PDP governors was chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
