Yola meeting: Atiku urges new movement to fix Nigeria

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the country needed to be re-engineered for the citizens to enjoy the benefits of democracy.

Atiku, who stated this on Tuesday in Yola at a coalition meeting attended by different members of political parties, pointed out that the country was no longer moving in the right direction.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate at the 2023 election, who arrived the Yola International Airport in his private jet at 12:48pm, was received by Senator Ishaku Abbo before his long convoy drove straight to the American University of Nigeria hotel, where the coalition meeting held.

“We need a new movement that we can use to correct things, if we do not act this time, our children will become slaves in their fatherland,” Atiku said.

“It is not yet time for me to speak on the politics of the country, but very soon I will break my silence on my political position and other things that are wrongly going on in the country.”

He called on Nigerians to be vigilant work for the interest of the country, pointing out that the new movement coming on board will be the saviour of Nigerians.

Atiku, who commended the organiser of the meeting, Senator Abbo, said the huge number of people from different political parties that attended the  meeting proved that Nigerians wanted a positive change come 2027.

Speaking at the meeting attended by members of different political parties from the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, Senator Abbo stated that any platform that the former Vice President picked would be their party.

He said, “As the former Vice President you are our party, you are our logo, anywhere you go we will follow you.”

In another twist, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, rated the administration of President Bola Tinubu low in security and socioeconomic development, describing the regime as a failure and a colossal disappointment in making the people to be proud of by Nigerians.

Fielding questions from newsmen Monday evening while hosting Iftar (breaking of fast) with some selected loyalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, Adewole, who assessed the two-year performance of the President, lamented the crises ravaging the country coupled with the perceived intimidation and lawlessness in the National Assembly and Rivers State.

He said, “Tinubu is the current champion of disgrace because it is a disgrace where you are not able to feed the poor in a land of plenty when you fix roads.

“Poverty, insecurity, underdevelopment, unemployment, those are the things that we are having conversations about. There are those who want to get to power anyhow and they will combine even with the devil.

“We are clamouring to serve the people. They are clamouring for themselves, Nigerians have reached a point that there is nowhere to go. In the next five years, population will grow by at least 10 per cent. There’s no work, there’s no food, there’s no education, there’s no housing, there’s no space in the public service.”

He added, “President Muhammadu Buhari came on national television and said ‘in my government, there is no space for anybody. Go and farm.’  But he didn’t give lands, he didn’t give security, he didn’t give fertilizers. So, these people are not even talking to you, Tinubu is more of a President of France, maybe Deputy President of France, than the President of Nigeria.

“So we need to be serious, it is not about giving positions; it’s about serving the people. The true position that is relevant in Nigeria is the position of citizen of the Federal republic of Nigeria.”
