The 2027 general elections seem tough for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a group, Team New Nigeria (TNN), has been floated to work against the government of the day.
TNN President, Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, accused the APC of playing with the economy of the country, due to hardship, insecurity, and human rights violations among others.
Farakwai said: “Today, the Nigerian economy is in its worst ever shape, with suffering and pain on an unprecedented scale.
“Hyperinflation and an ever-increasing price of basic items including food have all combined to inflict unbearable pain on millions of Nigerian households.
“Parents are being forced to make hard choices between seeking prompt health care for their sick children and providing meals with their meagre resources for families.
“Our middle class stands the real risk of being wiped out on the hack of an obnoxious debt restructuring programme.
“While our people struggle to keep their heads above water, government officials continue to exhibit high levels of greed, corruption, arrogance of power, dishonesty, blatant state capture and conflict of interest.
“Amid all the suffering, the government remains obstinate and refuses to hack down from the costly missteps that led us here in the first place
“They continue to waste the precious little we have on dodgy and misguided projects, programmes and on a bloated government.
“The national decay has not been limited to the economy. It extends to all aspects of our lives. Our hitherto trusted state institutions today stand as pale shadows of themselves, undermined, and politicised to the point that they consider themselves an extension of the governing All Progressives Congress.
“It is under the APC led Federal Government that we have seen the youth being traumatised, critical voice being suppressed and democracy being replaced with dictatorship.”
He said to achieve their purpose, “we have established the following committees with appropriate terms of reference:
“Legal and Constitutional Compliance Committee with Professor Muhartumad Zakari Yaro as Chairman 2. Political Management Committee with Professor Silva Opuala-Charles as Chairman
“Contact and Mobilisation Committee with Alhaji Omar Yusuf Aiyelabegan as Chairman; Finance Committee with Dr. Adebayo Akin-Omotuyi as Chairman.
“Publicity Committee with Dr. Mohammed Adah Shaibu as Chairman; Structure Committee with Professor Iheanacho Agboti as Chairman; Conference Committee with Professor Waziri Garba Dahiru as Chairman.
“Membership Registration and Harmonisation Committee with Senator Ibrahim Muhammad as Chairman
“The objective of these committees is to prepare the TNN for the party registration, and these committees have satisfactorily concluded their assignments.”
