No matter how hard Babangida tries to rewrite his own history, the grimness of his rule as a despised dictator will forever overshadow his memoir. Babangida’s memoir should be appropriately titled
Today, one of the most detestable dictators of our time, Ibrahim Babangida, famously referred to as “Evil Genius” will launch his biography. When a dictator like Babangida writes his own biography, it is called a “memoir” because it is a personal account of his life with a strong focus on justifying his actions on how he destroyed Nigeria.
Babangida is a cruel dictator. At his orders and most of the times by his own hands, hundreds of Nigerians were killed or tortured. His name is deservedly infamous. Babangida is so vicious and villainous. It is ironical that Babangida who is alien to books or reading, writes a memoir.
Expect to read the following in Babangida’s memoir. Babangida will portray himself in the memoir in a positive light to Nigerians whose lives were completely decimated during his regime. He will potentially minimize or outrightly omit details about the negative aspects of his rule as a dictator.
Babangida’s memoir is a self-serving narrative. He will present decisions he made and actions he took necessary for the greater good of Nigerians. He will portray himself as a strong leader who made tough choices to protect Nigeria and Nigerians. The book will be full of selective information. He’ll downplay details about human rights abuses, political repression, and brazen corruption that occurred under his dictatorship.
No matter how hard Babangida tries to rewrite his own history, the grimness of his rule as a despised dictator will forever overshadow his memoir. Babangida’s memoir should be appropriately titled
How I Destroyed Nigeria. I won’t waste my money buying his book. If offered for free, I will reject the book. The book is another propaganda sheet from the dictator’s stable of fabricated tales aimed to manipulate and hoodwink Nigerians again!
