‘Atiku to serve 4years, myself 4years, Peter Obi 8years’, Kwankwaso speaks on rumoured agreement

Former Kano State governor and The former senator also addressed rumours making the rounds that he has reached an agreement with presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, on a merger ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NNPP leader bared his mind in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Saturday,

Kwankwaso insisted that he was not aware of such arrangements if there were any, stressing that he only learnt that the Atiku group was holding meetings ahead of 2027.

“This issue really hurts me. It is said that the elders are lying; they are saying things that have not been done. I was told that about forty-five Mallams were gathered, and they are telling the people. But there is no such thing. I am not at all happy about this thing’,” he said.

“They were told that I agree that Atiku will serve for four years, I will also serve for four, and Peter Obi will serve for eight years. this pact does not exist; it has not been made” Kwankwaso stated. presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,

The former governor also accused those he described as northern leaders who interfere in the selection of political candidates by showing favouritism especially in the presidential election.

He expressed his displeasure at the practice of interfering in the selection of candidates, and said it was wrong for such people to claim they represent the region when their action was actually causing division in the region and hindering democracy by electing leaders who were not qualified.

Kwankwaso said that events that unfolded in previous elections should make the northern leaders refrain from anything related to the selection of candidates and allow the people to choose who they really want to be president.

“This oppressive thing they are doing is causing discord in the community. Whatever you do, do it based on the truth. It should not be said that the elders, some of them are our parents and some of them are brothers, especially in this area, here in the north and west, they shouldn’t show favouritism in bringing out candidates,” the NNPP presidential flagbearer said.

“Many of them come to spread lies, gather people, and tell them that the North has agreed on its candidates, and all these people are not more than two or three, but you see a man going and saying lies, instead of going to Port Harcourt or going to Abuja to go and promote us, who are their children, but then they go and show favouritism,” he stated.

“Even if you are a former governor, you are there; if you are a former minister, you are there, whether you want to be tall or short, but in the end that’s how they went and dumped us and did what they wanted.”
