President hails professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience
A Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at the University of Cambridge, Ijeoma Uchegbu, has been named the seventh President of Wolfson College, one of the varsity’s 31 colleges.
Uchegbu, who is renowned for her groundbreaking work in nanoparticle medication delivery, will take over as President on October 1, 2024, replacing the outgoing President, Professor Jane Clarke.
She currently lectures at the University College London.
A statement announcing the feat said: “Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience known for her ground-breaking work in nanoparticle drug delivery, will become the seventh President of Wolfson. She will succeed the current President, Professor Jane Clarke, on October 1, 2024.
“Professor Uchegbu is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at University College London. Her pioneering work on the mechanisms of drug transport have led to the development of new treatments which promise to transform pain relief, including the enkephalin pain medicine candidate (EnveltaÔ), designed to address the opioid crisis…”
Also, President Bola Tinubu celebrated Uchegbu on her election as President of Wolfson College.
A statement in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu celebrated the outstanding accomplishment and commends Professor Uchegbu for being an excellent ambassador for the country and for her relentless efforts to advance the frontiers of pharmaceutical science.
The President applauded Professor Uchegbu as epitomising the ingenuity, brilliance, and hard work that are consistently synonymous with the great Nigerian people both at home and abroad.
Wishing the Nigerian-born professor more success as she takes on this important role, President Tinubu assured Nigerians in the Diaspora that his administration remained committed to building a robust interface mechanism that harnesses ideas, promotes investment opportunities, and strengthens bonds, in line with his ‘4D Foreign Policy’.
