The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, inaugurated the Blue Line Rail in the state.
Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, made this known on his Twitter page, where he shared photos from the ceremony.
According to Gawat, the first phase of the infrastructure works for the rail project (Marina to Mile 2) has been completed and is being inaugurated on Wednesday (today).Related News
The blue line is one of seven Lagos metro rail lines, spanning from Marina to Okokomaiko.

In 1902, a tramway system was launched here in the city of Lagos, connecting the Mainland to Lagos Island. That tramway quickly became an important part of social and commercial life in early 20th century Lagos.
Now, one hundred and twenty years later, we are remaking history with the completion of yet another historic rail line, the first phase of the Blue Line of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT).
Let me make it clear that today is not the commissioning of the inaugural phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit. What we are gathered for, is to commemorate the completion of the project construction.
In the first quarter of 2023, we will put together a fitting official commissioning. Until then, we have an important phase of test-running to carry out, to ensure that everything is in place and in order, for the kick-off of full commercial operations.
The first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line stretches from Marina to Mile 2, covering five Stations and a 13- kilometre stretch, out of the total of 27km that is the entire Blue Line, and will run from Marina to Okokomaiko.
COMMENT: Great job to all that made this happen! Now, the governor and all involved must ensure that the running and the maintenance of the rail service is first class devoid of fraud, agberos and area boys. Also, the safety of all and every passengers must be of paramount importance.
They must employ and train uniformed officers to monitor and keep the peace on the trains. They must check passenger tickets, and be given power to arrest offenders. We can do it.
This shows that, there is nothing we cannot achieve in Nigeria if we want to, committed to it, and remove fraud & politics.
Again, kudos to LASG as they move on to other lines completion and other achievements like a massive world class hospital and 24 hour power supply. They can do it.
