Police Arrest Fifth Suspect Over UniJos Graduate’s Mob Killing

Police have made another breakthrough in the investigation into the shocking death of a University of Jos graduate.

As investigations into the alleged mob murder of University of Jos graduate Ibrahim Mbaya continue, the Plateau State Police Command has detained another suspect.

The arrest, according to the Command, was a major step forward in its investigation into Mbaya’s killing. Mbaya was allegedly tortured by a mob after being accused of stealing, which caused a great deal of public indignation.

This was revealed in a statement released in Jos on Wednesday by SP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

The statement claims that Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, 24, was detained by detectives based on reliable information regarding his suspected involvement in the crime.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, suggest that the suspect was involved in the assault on the deceased.

The allegation claims that as Mbaya was being attacked by mob members, the suspect assisted in tying him to a pole.

“It is alleged that the suspect actively participated in the illegal attack on the dead. According to the statement, he was severely assaulted by mob members and is explicitly accused of helping to tie the corpse to a pole.

The Command stated that while efforts have been stepped up to capture other suspects who are still at large, the suspect is in custody and helping with the investigation.

DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, the Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, reassured the state’s citizens and the families of the deceased that the Command is still dedicated to making sure that those proven guilty are held accountable.

He said that every effort will be made to look into the matter and bring legal action against anybody found to be at fault.

Additionally, the police urged anyone with pertinent information to report to the closest police formation in order to support ongoing investigations.

The Command reiterated its dedication to upholding citizens’ rights and making sure justice is done.

Mbaya, sometimes referred to as “Ibee,” passed away on July 27 after allegedly being beaten by a mob for allegedly taking a cell phone from an off-campus Jos apartment.

Widespread condemnation and fresh calls for an end to mob justice were sparked by the occurrence.

Five individuals are now in police custody as a result of the most recent arrest, while investigations and attempts to capture other escaping suspects are still ongoing.
