Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted more than 400 Starlink communication devices allegedly linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists operating in the North-East, in a major breakthrough aimed at disrupting insurgents’ communication and logistics networks.

The Commander of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier-General Beyidi Martins, disclosed this during a briefing with defence correspondents on ongoing intelligence-led military operations in the theatre.
Martins said that the devices, associated with Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, were recovered during coordinated military operations carried out in Sambisa Forest, the Timbuktu Triangle and other terrorist enclaves across the region.
He said the recovery formed part of sustained efforts by troops to weaken insurgent operations by cutting off supply chains and communication systems used to coordinate attacks and movements.
“The lifeblood of terrorist activities is logistics resupply, and we are deliberately denying them movement of supplies, communication equipment, fuel and other operational items across the theatre,” Martins stated.
The military commander disclosed that investigations had revealed that insurgents depended largely on civilian supply chains and local collaborators for the movement of food items, fuel, drugs, communication gadgets and motorcycle spare parts into remote hideouts.
He explained that while some individuals willingly collaborated with terrorists, others were allegedly forced into cooperation through threats and intimidation.
“There is a high level of collusion between some members of the civilian population and the terrorists. Some do it willingly, while others are forced through threats and coercion,” he added.
Martins also revealed that troops had infiltrated several transport and supply networks linked to insurgent activities, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of logistics suppliers and couriers allegedly aiding terrorist operations.
He added that troops intercepted consignments of petrol, drugs, medical supplies, food items and motorcycle spare parts on key supply corridors stretching from Kano through Nguru and other routes leading to Sambisa Forest and the Timbuktu Triangle.
The commander expressed concern over the use of livestock markets by insurgents to dispose of rustled animals and raise funds for their operations.
He noted that security agencies, in collaboration with market authorities, have introduced livestock verification measures to curb the trend and track suspicious transactions.
