Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has convened an expanded State Security Council meeting with heads of security agencies and chairmen of the 17 local government areas, as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security and promote lasting peace across the state.
The high-level meeting, held at Government House in Jos, reviewed the security situation over the past week and outlined proactive measures to prevent further breaches amid recent tensions.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, said the session provided a platform to assess developments and coordinate future operations.
He announced an adjustment to the curfew, now set from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with strict enforcement across affected areas.
“His Excellency summoned this meeting to review the past week and enable us to plan effectively for the days ahead. We have been directed to ensure strict compliance,” Ewah stated.
He warned that violators would face prosecution, stressing that existing restrictions, including the ban on commercial motorcycles and the regulation of tricycle movements, remain in force.
The Police Commissioner dismissed reports of planned protests circulating on social media, assuring residents that the situation remains under control.
“The government is not siding with any faith. All decisions are aimed at ensuring peace. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no protests and no breakdown of law and order,” he said.
Also speaking, the ALGON Chairman in the state, Hamisu Mohammed Anani, described the meeting as timely, noting that local councils would adopt tailored approaches to address security challenges.
“Each local government will develop strategies based on its peculiarities. We are working closely with security chiefs to strengthen collaboration and tackle insecurity effectively,” he said.
The meeting drew participation from top government and traditional leaders, including Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo; the Special Adviser on Security and Commander of Operation Rainbow, Gagji Shipi; and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.
