Search for:2027: Pro-Tinubu Igbo Group dismisses Obi–Kwankwaso alliance as non-threat

ABUJA — A coalition of pro-Tinubu Igbo groups, the NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI–ABAT), has downplayed speculations about a possible joint presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the proposed alliance as neither formidable nor feasible under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., the group said the rumoured partnership would not pose a significant challenge to the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The forum also alleged that discussions surrounding a potential Obi–Kwankwaso ticket were being linked in political circles to the influence of a former president, although it provided no verifiable evidence to support the claim.
NDI–ABAT referenced recent interactions between Obi and Kwankwaso, including Obi’s visit to Kano, suggesting it may signal political alignment. However, the group maintained that such moves do not translate into a viable electoral force.
It further argued that internal dynamics within opposition ranks could hinder any coalition plans, citing the continued political relevance and ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The group expressed confidence that President Tinubu would retain widespread support, particularly in the South-East, pointing to ongoing mobilisation efforts in the region. It also highlighted the role of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in strengthening political backing.
NDI–ABAT concluded that emerging opposition alignments—including any potential tickets involving Obi, Kwankwaso, or other political figures—are unlikely to significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Observers, however, note that political permutations remain fluid, with alliances and party platforms expected to evolve as the election cycle approaches.
