Good Riddance to Rubbish: A Response to Kemi Badenoch

Dear Kemi,

Let’s be clear: the Vice President of Nigeria does not speak for all 200 million Nigerians and certainly not for us. He was being generous when he called you “one of us.” But from the sound of it, even that courtesy was misplaced. A prodigal child who disowns her roots does not deserve the loyalty of the home she abandoned.

We’ve heard your comments, and frankly, we couldn’t care less that you’ve chosen to disassociate from Nigeria. You’re free to pledge allegiance to wherever you feel “home” is. But don’t expect Nigeria to weep. You say you’ve not renewed your passport in over two decades? Thank you. That makes it easier for us to cut the final strings.

Let’s also correct the record:
Among the top 100 most educated Nigerians in the UK, your family doesn’t feature.
Among the 100 most successful Nigerians in the UK, your name doesn’t echo.
So tell us , what exactly do you think Nigeria is losing?

Even Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s subtle jab revealed the truth: to the British political establishment, you’re a glorified wannabe, trying to out-English the English, while betraying the very heritage that raised you. It’s a pitiful sight.

You claim you were shaped by Nigeria’s failures. But true Nigerians are shaped by resilience, not resentment. You ran from the fire; we stayed to build through it. And here’s the irony: even from your privileged perch, you remain forgettable.

You say you don’t like socialism. We say we don’t like ingratitude.

You say “you never quite felt like you belonged.” Well, now it’s mutual.

We, the proud children of Nigeria, say this with our full chest: Good riddance to rubbish.

Entrepreneurship – The Nigerian hustle is unmatched.
Diversity – North to South, we embody unity in variety.
Beauty – Our people shine—in soul, skin, and heart.
Generosity – In villages or cities, we share what we have.
Patriotism – We criticise Nigeria because we love her deeply.
Courage – We confront global powers with pride and voice.

Hope – Despite it all, we never stop dreaming.
Kemi, this is the Nigeria you chose to forget.
We, on the other hand, are moving forward without you.
