Former presidential media aide, Laolu Akande, has submitted that the opposition coalition has not given any credible reason to convince Nigerians that it is a valid alternative for the 2027 elections.

He argued that the coalition is predominantly made up of the same old faces in Nigerian politics who are fighting for personal interest and not national interest.
Speaking on Thursday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Akande submitted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) still has better structures than the current opposition coalition to retain power in 2027.
Naija News reports that Akande was of the opinion that the opposition appears disorganized and without a clear political identity to challenge the APC in 2027.
“I think APC has better arrangements,” Akande said.
He argued that the only objective the coalition seems to be pursuing is unseating President Bola Tinubu without presenting any viable policy alternatives to Nigerians.
He submitted that Nigerians need new faces and not the same old politicians who have been running the government, but are now disgruntled because they lost out in the current power play.
“We need new faces, but they still have old folks.
“The characters at the forefront are not the ones that can get the job done. Nigerians would not be inspired by the same old personal vendetta politics,” Akande said.
The former presidential aide, however, singled out Omoyele Sowore for attempting to break the mould and push new narratives in Nigerian politics.
Datti-Ahmed And Obi
Speaking further, Akande argued that the recent statement by Datti Baba-Ahmed, indicating that Peter Obi is free to contest the 2027 election without him, is a sign that all might not be well between the two Labour Party politicians.
He argued that Baba-Ahmed should be at the forefront of coalition efforts.
“If the coalition is serious, Datti should be at the forefront to assure Nigerians of real change,” Akande said.
The former political aide criticized the lack of a clear manifesto and leadership identity within the LP.
