The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized the walkout staged against First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, by women aligned with the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

According to an earlier report by Naija News, tensions erupted during a women empowerment program held on Thursday at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt. The unrest began when some attendees, displeased with Theresa Ibas—the wife of Rivers State’s interim administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd.)—representing the First Lady, abruptly exited the venue. The women reportedly insisted that only Valerie Fubara, wife of the suspended governor, should address them.
The event, organized under the Renewed Hope Initiative, was marred by protest chants and demands, escalating into a politically charged disruption.
In a statement issued Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike condemned the walkout, describing it as a disgrace to Rivers people. He offered a public apology to both the First Lady and President Bola Tinubu.
“Any insult directed at someone representing the First Lady is a direct affront to the Office of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” Wike stated. “As a Rivers leader, I offer my sincere apology.”
Currently on official duty in China, Wike expressed deep concern over the incident, labeling it “disturbing and embarrassing.” He urged Fubara’s supporters to stop dragging the state’s reputation through the mud.
He also advised Fubara to be forthright in his dealings with President Tinubu. “You can’t be pleading for peace while simultaneously encouraging actions that contradict that plea. True peacemakers act in line with their words,” Wike emphasized.
“How can you claim to desire peace while sponsoring individuals to insult not just anyone, but the President and his wife?”
