Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting the recent petition to recall her from the Senate, describing the move as a triumph of justice.
In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC declared that the petition for her recall did not meet the constitutional requirements, affirming that no further action would be taken on the matter.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her gratitude to the electoral body for standing firm against what she called “undemocratic forces” from both Kogi State and within the Senate.
“The rejection of the recall petition is a victory for justice and constitutionality,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said. “I commend INEC for refusing to bow to pressures from anti-democratic elements, including former Governor Yahaya Bello, one of the most wanted individuals by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”
She emphasised that the will of the people of Kogi Central is sacred, saying, “The voice of the people is the voice of God. No one—be it Yahaya Bello, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, or their associates—can undermine the mandate freely given to me by the resolute people of Kogi Central.”
The Senator also expressed confidence throughout the process, stating, “I have never feared because I have a God that never fails, and I have the people on my side.” She described INEC’s decision as a correction of injustice, adding that the body had demonstrated true independence in rejecting the recall petition.
Akpoti-Uduaghan took a strong stand against what she termed “agents of darkness,” calling for a new era in Nigerian politics where corruption, violence, and election rigging would no longer be tolerated. “This is a historic win over those who prefer to operate in the shadows—manipulators, election riggers, and their violent allies in Kogi Central and beyond,” she said.
The Senator further expressed her deep appreciation to the people of Kogi Central and to all Nigerians who stood by her.
She added, “For me, this is about bringing justice to the oppressed and freedom to the captives. I remain committed to making my modest contribution to ensuring that Nigeria becomes great again.”
