Explosive Revelations: Ex-Senate President Hoarded £200 Million Offshore, Buhari Knew and Did Nothing – Former Presidential Aide, Okoi Obono-Obla Alleges

We Recovered 80 S-class Mercedes Benz Cars From A Person- Former Presidential Aide Okoi Obono-Obla Exposes Massive Loot Recovery And Return Under Buhari

In a stunning revelation, former Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla, has claimed that a staggering 80 S-class Mercedes Benz cars were recovered from a single individual, only to be returned to the looters later. This bombshell allegation highlights the deep seated corruption of the previous administration.
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, Obono-Obla, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, criticized the administration’s failure to tackle corruption, a cornerstone of Buhari’s campaign promises. He alleged that despite recovering significant amounts of looted assets, his efforts were systematically undermined by high-ranking officials within the government.
The Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), established by Buhari to reclaim stolen national assets, faced internal resistance, according to Obono-Obla. He pointed fingers at former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, describing him as ‘authoritarian’ and suggesting that Malami played a role in returning the recovered loot.
In his words, he said:
“Some of the things I recovered were returned to the looters. For instance, there was this case of someone from whom I recovered over 80 brand new X-class Mercedes Benz cars (armoured plated) from in Jabi, Abuja.
I wrote to the DG, Customs to ask if the person paid customs duties of the vehicles, he said ‘No’, they didn’t pay. I wrote to the Federal Inland Revenue Services to know if the person paid tax on the vehicles; he also said ‘No’ and that they don’t have the records. We went to court to get an order of interim forfeiture, and it was granted pending the hearing of the case. So, I sent a memo to Malami to brief him on what we were doing, only for him to tell me that he never mandated me to do things I investigated,”
Another explosive Revelation by Okoi Obono-Obla during the podcast is that of an ex-Senate President who hoarded £200 million worth of propertie in offshore islands following a thorough investigation.
Obono-Obla, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, accused the Buhari’s administration of looking the other way as his men and cronies looted the commonwealth of Nigerians.
He further alleged that Buhari and his cabinet were fully aware of the investigation’s findings but chose to take no action against the Senator. This explosive claim raises serious questions about the administration’s commitment to transparency and justice, and in combating fraud.
In his words, he said:
“Another one is the case of a senator who was then in his sitting status and later became the President of the Senate. I found his story in the Panama Papers, which stated that he had property in offshore islands; I didn’t have the power to investigate him because it was overseas, so I went to the DG, NIA, and sought his help to work together. They conducted an investigation and sent the report to me. The report confirmed that this senator has over £200 million worth of property in the offshore islands; I sent a copy to the president and one to the Attorney General. Till today, nothing happened,”
Obono-Obla also revealed how an American lawfirm in Texas wrote to ICPC to notify them that $69 billion (USD) was kept in late Patrick Azazi’s bank account in Texas. Their investigations with the NIA revealed that the money were proceeds of stolen crude oil. Patrick Azazi, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s National Security Adviser. The lawfirm promised to repatriation the funds to Nigeria, but that the Nigerian government will need to make some payments to the Lawfirm.
Obono-Obla then wrote to President Buhari regarding the Revelation from the American Lawfirm. He also wrote to Malami, the Attorney General at the time, unfortunately and unbelievably, nothing was done and everything was swept under the carpet to date.
Obono-Obla then claimed that Malami asked his wife when they met at a function, that, “Obono-Obla said he was going to recover $60 US dollars from the US, has he recovered it?” He was being sarcastic, said Obono-Obla.
