Amiddle-aged man from Bauchi state has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping children and selling them to ritualists in Abia State, South East Nigeria.
Mataz Arisng gathered that luck ran out of the young man whose identity was not immediately ascertained when one of the children he kidnapped escaped from a room apartment he rented and told some youths in the area what happened.
The youths immediately mobilised themselves and asked the little boy of about seven years to take them to the house.
However, when they got to the apartment it was locked inside and one of the youths knocked several times.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident seen by Mataz Arising on Monday showed when the youths confronted the Bauchi resident, saying the boy he kidnapped had told them that other children were still packed inside the room.
On opening the room, about six children were held hostage without clothes and were seen sitting on the floor of the house, holding something that appeared like bread in their hands. They were all rescued.
When the children were brought out of the room and questioned, they all said the suspect kidnapped them, noting that they had spent some days in the room.
When the youths started beating him, the suspect, who claimed to be a scraps seller and came from Bauchi State, confessed that he was a kidnapper.
When the youths asked him what he used the children to do, he said: “I am a kidnapper. I kidnap children and sell to one madam.”
Meanwhile, @GhenghisKhan01 who shared the video on his X account (formerly Twitter), wrote:
“Be careful out there. Landlords vet your tenants. These are some of the reasons community policing is very important. This chap came all the way from Bauchi state and rented an apartment in Abia state and kidnaps children and then sells them to people.
“Bauchi state kidnapper caught in Abia state.”
When the Abia Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka was contacted, she said she would inquire about the incident and get back.
