A Nigerian international student in the UK is now at risk of deportation after being arrested by the police for hunting and consuming squirrels over the course of more than a year since his arrival. A trending video capturing the arrest has circulated on the internet, shedding light on the unusual incident.
The witness to the arrest, Timi, a famous content creator, shared his account of the event: “Omo make una see something, I commot for my office this evening, say make I go shopping. As I dey come back from my shopping na so I see say police dey arrest one boy. The person wey dey arrest na Nigeria person o. Una dey see as dey put am for handcuff? See as they bend e neck, I dey live and direct. I nor know why some people nor fit avoid trouble, dem nor fit avoid temptation. Anywhere you travel go, obey the rules and regulations na common thing wey this boy go fit to avoid and na student.”
“This boy go dey kill squirrel dey chop, for this country, dem nor dey kill a squirrel, for here all this bushmeat, rabbit, squirrel dem nor dey kill them. If you see them for garden leave them; those things them be like citizens, them dey treat them like a human being here. If motor jam them, dem dey carry dem go hospital to treat them.”
“This boy go dey kill them, they carry them cook pepper soup, they cook afang, egusi soup dey chop. I nor know why some Nigerians nor dey respect themselves, and na student. All the bushmeat e chop for Nigeria nor do am e come here continue. Them say dem don dey monitor am since say e dey come garden with rat trap. If them come enter inside e dey carry dem go house, you know if oyinbo see this crime, dem nor de approach you to avoid fight. Them go report directly to police; dem don report am since last year but them been they try get evidence so dem don track am, them burst am for house.”
