“It Contained Governors, Other Prominent Figures”- Presidency Apologizes Over The Use Of Large Car Convoy, Gives Reasons

Presidency has apologized to concerned Nigerians who were mad at the viral video of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu using a 120-car convoy.
On Tuesday, President Tinubu touchdown Lagos, Nigeria after trips from Paris, London.
It was a homecoming for Mr. President as it was the first time the Former Lagos State Governor entered Lagos after the inauguration ceremony in May. He was received by State Governors and their deputies, top security officers, political leaders, and business associates.
Nigerians reacted to the viral video of the 120-car convoy used by Mr. President and other prominent figures as the majority claimed: “It is too much for somebody that asked Nigerians to sacrifice.”
An aide to President Tinubu, Dele Olusegun have disclosed why the vehicles used were much and also apologized for traffic and reactions it caused.
He wrote; “A lot has been said on the “Large Size Convoy” that followed the President from the Lagos Airport to his residence. While the criticisms are valid, it’s important to clarify for the purpose of perspective. 1. The official vehicles of the president and principal aides make up less than 10% of the Motorcade
2. The other vehicles in the Presidential motorcade belong to Several State Governors, heads of all security agencies, Party Leaders and political associates of the President who were all at the airport to receive him. It’s erroneous to assume all the vehicles are the president’s
3. Being the first time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Lagos after being sworn in as president, the excitement of his return energized the support base to turn out in their massive numbers to welcome him. Sincere apologies on all traffic inconveniences.
COMMENT: While it is heartening and a great positive development that a Nigerian presidency can apologize to Nigerians for their miscue in such a matter as this, and should be given credit for it, the apology seems to be half hearted. It is ingenuine to reduce the apology to “traffic inconveniences.” It is more of the waste of resources and the unnecessary extravagance and the insensitivity of people in government to the Nigerian people who have been asked to sacrifice for the country after the oil subsidy removal, increment in electricity tariff, and after these same politicians and government officials tried to increase their renumerations when Nigerians are asking them to reduce them.
Our leaders through their actions must show that they feel the pulse of the people and be more conservative in all they do.
May God bless Our President.
May God bless Nigeria.
