“Making Sense”
“THE ILLUSIONS OF A SOUTHERN PRESIDENT”
BY: Femi Fani-Kayode
Femi Fani Kayode is forever grandstanding and playing cosy with those he thinks hold political power in Nigeria.
He is an infinitely famished man and would do and say anything to those who can offer him a drink and a meal.
Consensus building by the south through acrimony, rancour and later reconciliation is different from Northern conspiracy by a few to malign the majority and the nation.
From the public expression of so many interests, arguments advanced, a consensus is built and varied interests are merged into one strong national resolution and purpose.
Not so with conspiracy, which is a plot by a group or region against the common interests of a nation. A conspiracy is a plot by a few to game the rest of a nation. Thus a conspiracy divides but consensus unites.
Afenifere and many prominent Yoruba groups and persons have without prompting from anybody canvassed for Igbo President. That is a worthy sense of fairness and commitment to build consensus in a just nation.
So has the Middle Belt and the South-South, particularly the inimitable Chief Edwin Clark insisted on a Southern and Igbo President.
From thence a consensus will be built over time. That is the exemplary and dignified way of Southern Nigeria. And we must never think or believe that it reduces us as a people. A canterkorous democratic spirit is never something to be ashamed of but worthy of emulation.
What the far North is doing is conspiracy to game the rest of the country in order to grab power for its elite as they have always done. They never serve anyone but themselves. The many coup d’etat in Nigeria were all conspiracies by the North to grab power. Power is their only interest and they will always undermine the rest of the country to achieve and hold it.
The world must also know that the present security challenges in Nigeria are all conspiracies by Northerners to undermine Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode sees unity and common purpose in Northern conspiracy but does not see the strength and national cohesion inherent in Southern consensus building. It is a truism that those who cannot compete, conspire. The South competes in the open. The North conspires in the dark.
So much is made of Northern reticence and secret planning, away from public view or participation. That is conspiracy.
A clear example of conspiracy which accounts for the permanent divisions in Nigeria and the feudal backwardness of the North. The fruit of conspiracy is never progress.
If the North truly wants one united Nigeria and pursues a worthy national course, it will open up for public discourse and national consensus building.
A people who pursue only regional interests against the expressed national purpose are only engaging in conspiracy. Conspiracy subverts the nation while public discourse and consensus building elevates a people.
There’s no virtue in conspiracy but a common purpose is built from quarrels and consensus building.
For all the years of conspiracy, the North is still backward, ruled by a cabalistic, brutal and oppressive alien Fulani minority group.
What has conspiracy availed the North?
Fani-Kayode is a knucklehead who reads Nigeria darkly and wrong. He is a cuckoo unable to find a nesting place.
