On Sunday May 1, 2022, Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka travelled to Cotonou, Benin Republic to visit Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho “to break the Muslim fast with him”, and to sympathise with his predicament.
Below are some of the reactions that follow the great Professor Wole Soyinka’s visit.

TOUT? ILLITERATE? NONENTITY? THUG?
Yet, 3 highly accomplished and respected professors are proud to sit in and take a picture with him.
Will 3 Professors of international repute, one a Nobel Laurette Literature winner be so wrong? That is the reason they can never understand the Yoruba. Proud to be one.
If you don’t gerrit, fogerraborit… – Ayo Dada
Of course they can be wrong depending on which Side you are on! For me that man is a tout, tribalist and a thug whose actions led to people being killed. I for one will not seat or take pictures with him but respect the 3 professors for their opinion and what I see as tribal politics. Would they be taking pictures with him 2-3yrs ago? ‘No’ will be the answer but now they are making a public statement. 3 professors are not always right but will always have my respect for what they have achieved albeit this time they got it wrong. How are they different from opportunist South East politicians taking pictures with Nnamdi Kanu? – Busayo Dada
The crop of Professors in that picture taken alongside Sunday Igboho have within them over 200 years of real & rich Yoruba & Nigerian history, they lived it, wrote about it & I dare not question their analysis & show of support cum solidarity with Igboho….May I, without been circumspect in my submission refer you to the documented evil that befell the Yoruba people of Ibarapa/oke-Ogun axis of the old Oyo empire….its worth asking what really galvanised the need for an ‘Igboho’? T’was the plethora of massacre, murders, rape, cattle rustling, kidnap for ransom and the eventual chopping into pieces a son of the soil who for happenstance was a member of Sunday’s family, the gentleman am referring to is Dr. Fatai Aborode, an employer of over 300 men & women in that axis.
He was killed on his over 400 acre farm by herdsmen because he dared to complain about the destruction of his crops by these so called Fulani herdsmen who have migrated from the Futa jallon mountans & highlands of West central Guinea…nomadic terrorists.
That’s what gave birth to the Igboho of today.
Scrutiny of Igboho’ s antecedents will portray him as a retired political thug/tout or whatever derogatory name he might have been labelled in the past, but today he has been re-born and should be known & seen as a freedom fighter, just like Efunsetan Aniwura, Aare Latoosa, Ogedengbe Agbogungboro, Queen Amina, Moremi et cetera…they all had their infractions but what made them great men & women was the liberation of their peoples in the face of adversity, oppression & potential genocide.
Ogedengbe’s life, travails & successes mimicks that of Sunday Igboho perfectly for he was also seen as a miscreant/thug or tout but eventually liberated the peoples of Ijesa/Ekiti/all the way to the Old Benin empire border towns of Owo & Akoko from the oppressive hegemony of the Ibadan Ajele’s & soldiers …he made history & history has been kind to him…history will sure be kind to Igboho’ & these Professors…. these Professors can not, I mean can never be wrong, and time, the healer of most wounds will bear me witness…My take – Robertson Afilaka.
I stand proudly with Sunday Igboho! We all have pasts and have made mistakes due to youthful exuberance. But when the chips were down against the Yorubas Igboho oosa stood and he suffered terrible consequences for it. Long live Igboho Oosa akikanju Omo karoojire, okunrin meta oko Fulani! The Yoruba nation of our dream will emerge inspite of opposition and Yoruba traitors among us. How has the union with the Fulanis helped or moved Nigeria forward as a nation – Olajumoke Awosika.
Leadership is not about knowledge, or intellect. It is a rare commodity bestowed to the few who have the power to galvanize others to achieve in group setting. That’s why people will listen and follow the one while ignoring the other – Charles Igwumba.
In a society, no matter how decent the people are, it’s always difficult to get 100% freedom fighters. We will always have committed ones who are ready to sacrifice their lives for total emancipation of their race from obvious oppression. There will be few dissidents who loves the chains of oppression on their hands and legs, they are always ready and eager to castigate the committed majority but forget that heavens help those who helped themselves. Unfortunately for this category of people, they will be the first to shamelessly identify with victory, forgetting that they are on the negative side of history – Olukayode Aro.
Only a beast of no nation , apology to Fela Kuti will castigate eminent Yoruba elders for taking pictures with a patriot like Sunday Igboho – Adejimi Dosumu.
These are men of honor, respect, and integrity. I am proud to be associated with these men of inpecable character and pedigree.Twalley sirs – Felix Kuton
Only for the open minded…proudly Yoruba woman – Ronke Balogun.
LONG LIVE THE CURRENT LIBERATOR OF THE YORUBA PEOPLE, LONG LIVE THESE AMIABLE YET CEREBRAL PROFESSORS & THEIR ADOPTED SON IGBOHO, LONG LIVE YORUBA LAND & BY EXTENSION NIGERIA…That’s if Nigeria harkens to the clamour for restructuring of a lopsided nation, otherwise ‘to your tents ye Yoruba people’ – Robertson Afilaka.
