To many, yahoo plus and ritual killings has reached an epidemic proportion in our dear country. Another young man, Victor Orji was caught in post service after he doused his girlfriend with petrol and set her on fire.
Many believe that the country is reaping the rewards of what we sowed, the glorification of anyhow wealth, especially our rogue politicians who are given front seats in our churches, chieftaincy titles by our traditional rulers, and rewarded by the political class with “juicy” political positions, and our musicians (who are doing their legitimate job/work) sing their praises to high heavens at their lavish parties where champagnes flow like river Niger. All these shenanigans in the midst of extreme poverty, jobless and highly unemployed intelligent graduates; all these in a country where sixty to seventy percent of the population are youths, who witness the stench everyday in their hopelessness of a better and brighter tomorrow, throw caution and care to the wind.
It matters not whether such people are smugglers, drug dealers, importers of fake and expired drugs, pirates, gangsters, sex traffickers, etc, as long as they have the wealth, it’s all good to them.
These issues are some of the major reasons we are where we are today in Nigeria. Millions of our youths have no hope for tomorrow, to them, it is better to enjoy a life of luxury for three to five years and suffer the consequences, including death, than to continue to live in penury, slaving for their oppressors.
When we celebrate wealth irrespective of the source of such wealth, we are going to continue down this path of destruction.
I hope and pray that the love of money, for the good things of life, will not continually lead our ladies and gentlemen to their slaughter house(s).
