Today, October 10, 2021, 60+ years ago, a legend named Sunday Omobolanle aka Papi Luwe was born at Ilora, a town in Oyo State southwestern Nigeria. He is the father, a husband, a film actor and director. Sunday Omobolanle had scripted, directed, produced and featured in several Nigerian movies such as Adun Ewuro, a 2011 Nigerian film that featured Adebayo Salami. In recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian film industry, he was bestowed with a National award, MON by President Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As a veteran comedy actor and movie producer, Papi Luwe has appeared in over 40 Yoruba movies and stage plays during a glowing career, during which he produced many. Among Mr. Omobolanle’s movies are GREEN SNAKE, AIYE IPALOLO, and SILHOETH, a TV series.
In a brief chat with MaTaZ ArIsInG on his birthday, Papi Luwe voiced his concerns about piracy of Nollywood actors and actresses’ work, and how it has, and is adversely affecting the artists financially, as many of them are struggling to make ends meet, take care of themselves and their health. He lamented the fact that many of Nollywood movies online, particularly on YouTube can be considered as pirated, because those who share and post them on YouTube do not have their permission to do so, and do not represent the artists in any form. Papi Luwe’s movies are not spared.
When asked what he would like for his birthday present, the humble and down to earth stage superstar’s response was for the government and the social media giants like YouTube to assist in curbing the menace of piracy to the barest minimum as it is never easy to completely eradicate.
MaTaZ ArIsInG and friends celebrate Mr. Sunday Omobolanle today on his birthday, wishing him all the best in his past and future endeavors. Long may he live in prosperity, good health, with sound mind.
Nigerians thank you sir for bringing so much joy and laughter to our living rooms and homes.
Wishing you the happiest of birthdays Papi Luwe.
