When a man pursues a dream vigorously for over 10 years, it is assumed that he will be more than prepared and ready when that opportunity finally arrivess, but not with President Buhari, it seems. If he had waited for another 40 years to run Nigeria, he wouldn’t have done better than what we are seeing now.
Since he was kicked out of Office by Babangida and Abacha, one ask, what has he been doing to upgrade his Governance Skills, no training, no studies of any kind, no pursuit of any national political discourse, not even to put his Memoirs together by the help of professional writers? (Western Germany readily comes to mind). All it seems our president was busy doing in Daura was attending Village meetings, going to pray in the Mosque and tending to his herd of cows (which is perfectly ok) that he lacked the capacity to even grow into a big ranching business capable of supplying Beef, Milk, Yoghurt, Skins and hides across Nigeria. This was the Buhari that was sold to Nigeria on the singular premise that he doesn’t have the capacity to loot the treasury as though treasury looting is the only problem of governance in Nigeria.
They branded him as Mr. Do Good, who will not hurt a fly and who will work well with every section of the country, now the president has revealed his agenda, the Islamization and Fulanization of this great nation and whatever the collateral damage incurred doing it is just what it is, a Collateral damage. The nepotism, the sectionalism, the regionalism, the favoritism for his kinspeople, the Fulani, is in your face.
The president, in his address during Nigeria’s indepence celebration of October 1, 2021 spoke about sponsors of secessionists as he puts it, but failed to mention the sponsors of terrorism in the country.
His penchant for open grazing, for clamping down on everything southern Nigeria wants/needs, VAT, resource control, fairness and equity in his federal appointments, state security personnel in the absence of fair law enforcement agencies to protect them from the marauding Fulani herders, while handling the criminal gangs, terrorits, the so-called bandits from the north with kid’s glove sets him apart from all leaders from the north that Nigerians had once thought were nepotic, as the worst of them all by a distance.
The countdown to the exit of Mr. Buhari from power in Nigeria has begun, the same way he came, by the same way he will fizzle into perpetual irrelevance. The Clock is ticking. The writer still believes that Buhari still has a slight window of opportunity to write his name in gold if only he can listen and bring every Nigerian on board and genuinely addresses their concerns.
For the sake of fairness, if Nigeria was in decay 6 years ago caused by Jonathan’s government, before the advent of Buhari, what do we have today on the economic front, the fight against corruption, industrial development, unemployment rate, security or lack of it? What is he using Osinbajo for, a great asset, ignored for ethnic reasons, a vice that is way down in the pecking order of Buhari’s inner caucus, the man Buhari has treated with disdain and disrespect. (PMB fired the AIG of police while on a visit with Osinbajo to the east without Osinbajo’s knowledge; it was shocking).
Things have certainly gone from bad to worse, from the economy to security, to inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations. Everything has become 10 times worse under the president’s watch!
The only area of success Mr Buhari has recorded is in infrastructural development, and if we look at it properly, that’s down to the efforts of Amaechi and Fashola his appointees to his cabinet, so, the writer gives him credit for this. However, we have huge national debts to show for it.
It is a very bad situation in Nigeria where 10s of millions of people are suffering terribly, people are impatiently waiting for their nightmares to be over when the president’s tenure ends in 2023 and returns to Daura to go and enjoy his retirement and hopefully leave Nigerians alone.
The latest Mr. Buhari and his security apparatus do now is to arrest Nigerians for wearing T shirts and clothes, it is not enough to hunt down Kanu and Igboho while Gumi and his ilk walk free, they arrested students tagged the Dunamis 5 for wearing Buhari must go T shirts to a Sunday service at Pastor Dunami’s church. On October 7, 2021, a Nollywood actor, Mr. Agu was arrested by the Nigerian army officers for wearing what they termed IPOB’s inscribed dress. Mr. Agu was later realeased after outcries by the Nigerian people only to be rearrested by the DSS. The irony of this action is that, Mr. President has terrorist sympathizers in his government in Pantami and company; which one is worse?

Only God knows what would have happened in towns and villages in the areas if the NDA were to be based either in the Eastern or Western parts of the country and the ‘bandits’ attacked it like they did in Kaduna? Can Nigerians put this down to how ‘civilised’ the so called soldiers are in the North? Unfortunately, the truth is that this has always been the way of cowards who always pick on those they consider vulnerable.
Truth be told, it looks like president Buhari has not changed one bit from when he was the military head of state in 1984, he is still very much his myopic, self serving nepotic ruler he remains today. How can the southerners, indeed, Nigerians forget how he jailed every federal official in Shagari’s government from the south while he put those from the north under house arrest, VP Ekwueme was put in the gallows while his boss, Shagari, whose government it was, was put under house arrest.
The writer wishes he could muster some kind of positivity about this government. But try as he may, it’s too difficult for him to find.

ARREST OF CHIWETALU AGU IS ILLEGAL AND UNCONSCIONABLE
We thank God for the 5.1% growth last quarter, but then, how can we rejoice when the dollar rate went from N500 to almost N525 within the same period, and worse now? How do we rejoice when death has now been democratised all over the country under this emotionally detached president? One thing is to be incompetent, another is to be unmoved and unconcerned about what your citizens are going through. Even Northern rulers who are never known to come out openly to complain, are now doing so openly because the frustration has gone beyond measure. A Sultan from the north came out sometime ago, to say deaths are grossly under-reported in the North, that burials he personally witnessed have not been reported at all.
If we add the harrowing economic situation to the pervasive insecurity, what is there to cheer about in 5.1 percentage growth?
This is just how 90% of Nigerians feel at the moment. Most of the remaining 10% are either in government, gaining financially from the government, or are getting ready to get in.
The supporters of this government are quick to point to the “Infrastructural development, economic growth” as laudable achievements of the administration; may be so. But then, who are those supposed to enjoy the infrastuctural development? The citizens who can’t travel on those roads.
The “Economic growth” that gave birth to hyper inflation!! It’s funny, may be not, when people say these things because the groundnorm of the existence of any society is for the citizens to enjoy security of lives and properties. To be able to move around freely without fear etc. So, can anyone say what is in any infrastructural development people can’t enjoy. What is economic growth when inflation has gone through the roof? Na wa o!
