The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a Sallah visit to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kano State.

Obi was accompanied by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, was also present.
Kwankwaso, who shared the visit on his X handle, expressed delight at hosting the delegation.
“Delighted to host Their Excellencies, Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson at my Kano residence for this joyful Sallah celebration,” he said.
“Wishing everyone peace, blessings, and prosperity,” he posted
During the visit, Obi said the occasion was to felicitate with Kwankwaso and honour him during the festive period.
“I am here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respect to our leader,” he said.
Obi assured Kano residents of efforts to revive the state’s economic base, particularly its industrial sector, saying plans were underway to restore key industrial hubs in Bompai and Sharada, and revive institutions like the Bank of the North.

“We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano. We want to bring back Kano’s powers and restore its industries,” he added.
Obi stressed the visit wasn’t politically motivated, but to celebrate Sallah with the people.
Many had thought the visit was political -for his 2027 bid, looking at Kwankwaso’s influence in the North and Obi’s national appeal, which might be the combo the two are looking for.
Obi however stated: “Today is not about politics, it’s about celebrating Sallah. May Almighty Allah bless you all.”
Obi’s visit, which drew a large crowd of Kwankwaso’s loyalists, is seen as a strategic move to solidify ties with Kwankwaso ahead of potential political realignments and the 2027 general election.
