In the early hours of Sunday, 26 October 2025, officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided the popular Proxy Night Club at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. The operation led to the arrest of socialite and club owner Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, alongside more than 100 patrons of the club.

According to the NDLEA’s statement released by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives acted on credible intelligence about a so-called “drug party” taking place at the venue. Agents were reportedly embedded in the gathering from about 11 p.m. on Saturday and moved in around 3 a.m. on Sunday to carry out the raid.

During the operation, cartons of illicit substances were recovered from both some attendees and the club’s store. Among the items seized were “Loud” (a potent strain of cannabis) and canisters of laughing gas (nitrous oxide).
Pretty Mike and the others are currently in custody and being screened as the NDLEA continues its investigation into the level of involvement of each suspect.
Wider enforcement efforts and public impact

This raid is part of a growing crackdown by the NDLEA on nightlife venues and nightlife-related drug activity in Lagos and beyond. The agency has stated that it remains committed to ensuring that entertainment spaces do not become safe havens for illicit substance distribution.
The arrest of Pretty Mike has drawn widespread social media attention, with mixed reactions from the public. Some users praised the enforcement action, while others questioned whether mere presence at the club equates to guilt. For example, former reality show contestant Tuoyo Ideh (ex-Big Brother Naija housemate), who was among those arrested, posted about his experience, saying: “I have been arrested by the NDLEA … around 4 am … we over 150 people here … they made us sit down like criminals.”
