The United States government under President Donald Trump has launched a new app designed to facilitate the self-deportation of illegal immigrants.
The CBP Home app replaces the controversial CBP One app, which was widely used during the Joe Biden’s administration to allow migrants to schedule appointments at U.S. ports of entry and gain temporary legal status through parole.
The Trump administration has completely overhauled that system, shifting the focus from entry facilitation to voluntary departure.
The Department of Homeland Security announced that all existing CBP One apps would automatically update to CBP Home, which comes with a new feature allowing migrants to report their intent to leave the U.S.
The app also enables them to submit proof of departure, but only if they were initially paroled into the country under the Biden administration’s policies.
Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, framed the app as a necessary step to correct what she called the failures of the previous administration’s immigration policies.
She accused Biden of using CBP One to undermine border security and facilitate the mass entry of illegal migrants.
“The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than one million aliens to illegally enter the United States. With the launching of the CBP Home app, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system,” Noem said in a statement.
The new app is meant to serve as a last chance for undocumented migrants to leave the country voluntarily. Noem made it clear that those who fail to do so will face consequences.
“The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return,” she said.
The introduction of CBP Home is just the latest in a series of aggressive immigration measures implemented by the Trump administration since returning to power. On his first day back in office, Trump moved swiftly to dismantle Biden’s immigration policies, ending the use of CBP One for parole and immediately suspending humanitarian parole programs.
His administration has also allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to revoke parole statuses granted under Biden, further tightening immigration enforcement.
This new policy marks a dramatic shift in how the federal government handles undocumented immigrants, making it clear that voluntary departure is the only option for those who entered under Biden’s relaxed border policies.
