The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State Chapter, has stated that the terms of settlement reached in the Lagos State House of Assembly crisis did not include the resignation of the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
The clarification comes on the heels of a peace parley held by Obasa for reconciliation with his aggrieved colleagues after he was reinstated.
In the wake of the development, speculations suggest that Obasa would step down as Speaker 48 hours after his reinstatement to pave the way for a new Speaker from Lagos West as demanded by the 34 aggrieved lawmakers.
Addressing the rumours, APC spokesman in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, dismissed claims of Obasa’s resignation, clarifying that there was no such arrangement.
“To the best of my knowledge, there was no time the arrangement for Obasa to resign came up in the terms of settlement of the crisis,” he said.
“I’m aware that any moment from now, Obasa will withdraw the lawsuit in the interest of renewed peace and progress of the House in particular and the party in general,” Oladejo added when asked if Obasa would drop the lawsuit against his colleagues.
