EFCC: Bobrisky sues VeryDarkMan for N1bn, says voice recording AI-generated

Nigerian social media personality and cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against internet activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, seeking N1 billion in damages.
The legal battle stems from VDM sharing a voice recording, which he alleged was that of Bobrisky claiming to have bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, with N15 million to drop the money laundering charge against him.
Bobrisky, however, has denied the claims, stating that the voice recordings purportedly implicating him in any wrongdoing were artificially generated using AI technology.
However, the controversial activist, has fired back at the social media celebrity Bobrisky after receiving a N1 billion lawsuit threat for alleged defamation.
Earlier on Sunday, Bobrisky’s legal team shared a document accusing VeryDarkMan of releasing an AI-generated recording to damage her reputation. They demanded a retraction and apology within 24 hours.
Reacting to the letter in an Instagram post, VeryDarkMan claimed he obtained the WhatsApp conversation from someone Bobrisky allegedly contacted.
The activist also questioned Bobrisky’s sudden strength despite previous suicidal thoughts. He also threatened to countersue the crossdresser for N1,000,000,020, humorously intending to make a gain of N20.
VeryDarkMan also warned that the integrity of many will be compromised during the legal battle.
“Bobrisky, did you not say you wanted to ‘kpai’ yourself? Are you not doing it again? Anyway, in this case, they will exchange their credibility for my publicity again as usual. I will suffer them. The integrity of a lot of people will go down. You will hate why you take this case like this. I promise you that. From now, Bobrisky now has the strength to sue me and gave me 24 hours. That means they are working together. I am thinking what I have exposed is bigger than what it is,” he said.
“Did Bobrisky later pay someone N3 million when he did not get it from Falz? I can stand for myself anywhere. Bobrisky has sued me N1 billion but I will caricature it more with N1,000,000,020 billion and N20 gain. I will make all of you stupid in this country.
“WhatsApp calls are encrypted. How many hours did Bobrisky get to talk to Falz for that long? If he had such a long time to talk to the other person I got this recording from, and called other people from prison, how many times did you give him the phone?”
Bobrisky’s saga started on Tuesday after VeryDarkMan, born Martins Otse, shared a purported audio recording online wherein she claimed she bribed some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials with N15,000,000 to drop the charges against her.
Bobrisky, whose birth name is Idris Okuneye, was released from prison on August 5 after she was sentenced to six months on April 12 for abusing the naira.
In the footage shared by the activist, the crossdresser claimed her “godfather” alongside Haliru Nababa, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) controller general, ensured she served the six-month sentence in a private apartment, and not the prison.
Reacting, the self-proclaimed transgender described the viral recording as “fake”. She argued that she did not pay any amount to the anti-graft agency.
Bobrisky’s denial came after the anti-graft agency invited her and VeryDarkMan over bribery allegations against its officials.
Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, also ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations.
Bobrisky earlier disclosed she was contemplating suicide.
The federal government also suspended two officials of the NCoS over bribery allegations involving the transgender.
Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan: Reps probe bribery allegations against EFCC, NCS
The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
The allegations, made by VeryDarkMan, claimed that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, after receiving N15 million.
Rep Patrick Umoh, representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, sponsored the motion during Thursday’s plenary, expressing concern over the damaging allegations.
He emphasized the negative image of Nigeria as a corrupt nation and the need for urgent action.
Addressing his colleagues, Umoh expressed concern over the widely circulated publication by VeryDarkMan against the EFCC and the NCS.
He said, “The publication alleges that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky upon collection of the sum of N15,000, 000.
“The publication alleges that Idris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing of the Naira, by the court, did not serve his time at the Nigeria Correctional Service, but was lodged outside the confines of the service.
“We are disturbed about the damning allegations against Nigerian critical law enforcement agencies-the EFCC and the NCS established by this hallowed chambers to fight correction and incarcerate persons convicted of a crime for correctional purposes respectively.”
He also added that the negative image and portrayal of Nigeria as a corrupt nation in the publication should not be swept under the carpet.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas who presided over the plenary session, referred it to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.
